Presentation of the platform's main components

Objectives

  • Understanding the role of the main components
  • Understanding the relation between components
  • Getting comfortable with the platform's interface and structure

Spaces

Spaces are used to organize documents (data sources, maps, applications, etc.) inside of the platform. As such, spaces can be regarded as projects which contain these various elements. In that sense, they are also used to manage permissions and access via the users and groups system.

Groups

Groups are used to manage the privileges (creating data sources, see the users inside a group, create reports, etc.) assigned to every user, which is used by managers to restrain access to certain functionalities. In that sense, it is possible to assign multiple groups to the same space, but with different access privileges.

Users

Users are individual accounts used to log into the platform. It is possible to modify the name, last name, email address and password of a user, and to place them into groups.

Library

The library is one of the most important components of the platform. It is the place where all data sources are listed, enabling their creation, importation and exportation, connection and visualization.

Create

It is possible to create an empty data source by defining its name and data structure (fields and type).

Import

The platform also enables the importation of existing data sources located in files such as CSV (Excel), SHP (shapefile), TAB (MapInfo), GPX (GPS file), GDB (Esri) and others. These files are then automatically converted so that their structure and data can be added into the platform's database.

Connect

Web services connection is also very simple with this platform, with the possibility to grab data from WMS, GeoJSON, Google Maps, Here Maps, etc.

Visualize

Once imported into the platform, the data source's information can be viewed, be it general information (author, creation date, etc.), its content, as well as its data structure (fields and type).

Export

The data source can be exported as a shapefile, CSV or MapInfo file, which extracts the information from the platform's database to push it into the desired file format.

For more information, you can access to the documentation by logging into the platform and following this path (Your name > Documentation > Library).

Maps

Another very important component of the platform, maps enable the visualization of selected data sources coming from the library. It is possible to import multiple data sources, to customize their appearance, to modify the base map and to share the map.

Applications (Web Apps)

Web applications make use of a created map, and then enables it for collaboration between multiple users. As such, it is possible to show, print, analyze and edit data in real time for every person with the required privileges. Moreover, the appearance and the available tools in each application can be changed, allowing for custom maps for every use case.

Forms

Forms serve as the graphical interface linked to a data source as well as a configuration file for enabling certain functionalities. They are the windows that appear when clicking on data, enabling the user to select which data to display, to add new entries, to filter data with spatial filters and more. They are configured via text in the JSON format.

Processes

Processes are a way to build new data from an existing data source. For example, they could allow the analysis of stores separated by provinces or even the addition of buffer zones around existing roads to respect clearance requirements prescribed by the law. As such, it is a powerful tool for facilitating interactions with data, providing a graphical interface and automatic updates.
